| Gypsy Fusion Bellydance: Beginner and Intermediate, with Dina, Tuesdays 7-9pm. Beginner Gypsy Fusion, 7-8pm:This class teaches the fundamentals of Dina’s own particular brand of Gypsy Style Bellydance, which includes elements of Turkish Romany, American Tribal, Spanish Flamenco, and Fusion Bellydance, as well as some ethnic folk dances. The Beginner class gives the student a basic conditioning workout while introducing movement vocabulary that is essential to learning the choreography of the Intermediate class. Dancers new to Dina are advised to take at least one session of Beginner before moving on to Intermediate, so they are familiar with her techniques and movement vocabulary. Intermediate Gypsy Fusion, 8-9pm: This class focuses on choreography, skirt work, the use of props and zills, gestures, and theatrical characterization. We’ll dance to many exciting world music flavors, including Greek, Turkish, Spanish, Arabic, Indian, Romany/Gypsy, Modern Fusion, as well as various kinds of drum rhythms. Here the dancer will learn how to play zills with movement, create a dance to the elusive 9/8 rhythm, and also to use the big 25-yard Gypsy skirt as part of her dance. Gestures, character work, and balancing props (including sword) are also covered. Performance opportunities will be offered as part of this class. Please bring a long, full, Gypsy style skirt to each class. "Belly-robics": Basic Bellydance Workout with Dina, Wednesdays 7-8pm. Want to do some sweating and get in shape? Want to drill those basic bellydance moves until you know them inside and out? Want to stretch and strengthen your body so that you are a better- conditioned dancer all around? Then this class is for you. Dina drills the bellydance basics in aerobic-style combinations that are easy and fun to follow. She also breaks down each movement until everyone gets it. Move your hips to dance club mixes and techno-Gypsy music, while also getting a full warm-up and cool-down to take you through the complete conditioning experience. This is a perfect class for beginners who want to go over basic technique, or for any dancer who just wants to drill and work out! Beginner Doumbek and Beyond Beginner Doumbek, with Brian, Thursdays 7-9pm Join professional drummer Brian LeDuke in learning the basic rhythms that drive Middle Eastern music and dance. You will learn how to play Arabic rhythms such as beledi, ayub, maqsum, and saiidi; also some North African rhythms, and a few Turkish and Balkan rhythms for a little bit of a challenge. Drummers, impress your friends at your next drum circle around the bonfire. Dancers, become better acquainted with the rhythms you are dancing to, especially when working with live music. Please bring your own drums; we also have a few for sale, or to borrow if needed. BEGINNER from 7-8pm is for those who are just becoming acquainted with the drum. BEYOND BEGINNER from 8-9pm is for those who already have some drumming experience, and want to continue with their studies.
