The Dancing Gypsy Weeknight Class Schedule Winter Session 2012: Jan 24 - Mar 29 Improvisational Tribal Style(ITS) Bellydance With Baseema Tuesdays 7-8:30PM; $15/ea pre-paid for the semester or $18/ea drop in ITS (Improvisational Tribal Style) Bellydance is an offshoot of ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance, as developed by Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Belly Dance. It is a synchronized group improvisation where the dance is created by following cue-based movements and combinations. Tribal Bellydance is an ethnic fusion, influenced by the Middle East and North Africa as well as India, Greece, Turkey, and America. During this class, we will learn various slow and fast combinations to create a dance, in-the-moment. This will be a mixed-level class, covering ITS and ATS style combinations. No previous belly dance experience is necessary. Class will consist of a warmup, drills, combinations, group improv, and also a cooldown. Bring your water bottle, because it can be quite a workout! Baseema brings us many years of experience with Tribal Improv, and has studied under many Tribal dancers including Caroleena Nericcio. Baseema is currently a member of Troupe Moirae and is also a contributing collaborator with TDG's Troupe Shivani. Tribal Fusion Bellydance With Dina Wednesdays 7-8:30PM; $15/ea pre-paid for the semester or $18/ea drop in The sensual art of Tribal Fusion Bellydance is the fastest-growing genre of Bellydance in the new millennium. It’s slinky, sexy, strong, and spiritual all at the same time. Its core is rooted in American Tribal Style Bellydance and Folkloric Cabaret Bellydance, and is flavored with infusions of Modern Lyrical and Hip-Hop dance, as well as Yoga, classical Indian dance, and other Eastern types of movement. It is at once fluid and sharp, ancient and modern. Your instructor Dina LeDuke includes the stylistic influences of such well-known Tribal Fusion artists as Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Donna Mejia, Troupe Zafira, Sera Solstice, and many others with whom she has studied. This class is mixed level, suitable for both beginners and intermediates. We begin with a thorough warm-up and then progress to movement drills, focusing on the basics. We then engage in learning a full Tribal Fusion choreography, and we end the class with a grounding Yoga cool-down. This class is not geared towards performance, but rather to the personal enrichment of each dancer. Technique and training will be emphasized. Please dress in yoga pants, Tribal-style flare pants, or other comfortable dance wear. Please NO coin belts, as this will interfere with floorwork and stretching. Also bring a yoga mat and a water bottle if desired. Pre-registration is required for all classes. To pre-register, please send your contact info to: dina@thedancinggypsy.com All tuition is due on the first night of class, with cash or a check made payable to the teacher. Please contact Dina if you have any questions or need to discuss payment options. |

Workshops and Showcase with Erzulie and Pacita Complimentary Henna Designs by Ancient Fire Henna Live Music with Carmine Guida and The Pennsic All-Star Band Saturday February 4th, Noon - 11pm Missed Birka this year? Beat the winter blues with us and the "Pennsic All Stars" at The Dancing Gypsy on Saturday, Feb 4th. Midwinter is upon us at this time, so that means spring is not far behind.... time to dance, make music, and party! Dancers, enjoy TWO great workshops during the day to get you warmed up: 12 - 2pm: Dance On The Rhythm (aka Bellydance Boot Camp) Part 2 with Erzulie. This workshop was so popular at our December event that we just had to have Erzulie back for more! Doesn't matter if you took Part One or not, Erzulie has lots more material to teach those interested in the roots and rhythms of Cabaret and Folkloric Bellydance. PS: If you have a bellydance cane, bring it - she will have some cane moves to show this time amongst her other teachings. 2 - 4pm: Fanveils with the enchanting Pacita Prasarn of NYC. Pacita is a well-known Ethnic Fusion dancer, whose talents include many beautiful and graceful Fanveil dances. Learn how to make these delicate props your own, in any kind of bellydance routine. There will be fanveils to borrow, and Pacita will also have some for sale at her Materialis vending table. Workshops cost $35/ea pre-paid, or $40/ea at the door. 5:30 - 8:30pm: Our favorite Hennachick, Maria of Ancient Fire Henna, will be doing complimentary henna designs for everyone. So get here a little bit before the 6pm showtime and get your henna on! If you want a really BIG HONKING henna design, she will be available after 8:30pm for custom work at her regular prices. Hennayeah! 6-7pm: Participant Showcase. Erzulie's and Pacita's students are welcome to showcase their pieces to CD music at this time. Please limit your piece to under 6 minutes, as we have lots to get to this evening! There are 10 performance slots available, on a first-come-first-serve basis, so be sure to get your pre-reg in early :) 7-11pm: The Midwinter Gypsy Jam Hafla! Dancers, drummers, and musicians are invited to participate in the Gypsy Jam Hafla with the "Pennsic All Star Band". Do you miss those amazing all-night jams around the bonfire? Itching to play some classic bellydance tunes and rock out with a massive percussion jam? Well our talented bandleader Carmine Guida will be up from NYC, and our favorite local multi-instrumentalists Brian LeDuke and Dwayne Green will also be part of the band. If you are interested in joining the Pennsic All Stars in playing some rockin' Arabic and Turkish music favorites, or would like to do a dance number with the band, please rsvp to this event, and stay tuned!
